Closet Accordion Players of America (CAPA) is an organization of good sports. We believe that accordionists who can laugh at themselves are more likely to be taken seriously when they go on to point out what a wonderful instrument the accordion really is. CAPA uses humor to get attention, and, once we have people's attention, we go on to make serious points about the accordion. With a light-hearted approach to "accordion abuse," we hope to help improve the image of the accordionist.

Our approach seems to be working. The media attention CAPA has received since 1992 has been pretty amazing. It has been featured on television and radio programs and in major newspapers all over America. Hundreds of people have called or written, telling wonderful stories about their experiences with the accordion and, sadly, admitting that they too have experienced teasing about their choice of musical instrument. Many announce that CAPA has inspired them to come out of the closet with their accordions, and many others proudly say that they have been out of the closet all along.
